I write about it in memoir because I want the narrative about my life to be mine. To not speak of a lifetime of abuse is to accept the blame and justifications that adults, relatives, siblings and even my own child attributes to my own bad choices.

Pre-programming is everything. Speaking out attempts to stop the cycle of abuse that’s encouraged by these bystanders.
