Now this, a caution is in order. Cultural anthropologists learned the hard way that informants who shared the most were often not central to the cultures studied. Rather, the open-to-gabbing types can often be the most marginalized, the outsiders, the ones who feel they have nothing to lose by speaking with strangers.

They may be doing you a favor of friendliness in order to elevate their own status. Which means, if you know this, just be aware, and be careful.
